Connecting People and Ocean – 2nd Webinar in the Challenge 10 Series
The second installment of the Connecting People and Ocean webinar series on Challenge 10: Restoring Society’s Relationship with the Ocean, hosted by the Ocean Decade Coordination Office (DCO), will be held on 6 May 2025, 09:30-11:15 CET.
Launched in February 2025, the series explores the multidisciplinary nature of ocean literacy and promotes new partnerships and initiatives aligned with Ocean Decade goals, especially those of Challenge 10.
This session will feature two DCO speakers discussing how philosophy and cognitive science can deepen our understanding of the ocean: Roberto Casati, Director of the Institut Nicod (CNRS/EHESS), and Jarina Mohd Jani, researcher at the Faculty of Science and Marine Environment, Universiti Malaysia Terengganu. Building on themes from the first webinar—like mental maps and emotional connection—they will also highlight alternative perspectives, including the worldview of the Orang Laut (Sea People), often described as sea gypsies or nomads.
Together, they will offer cross-disciplinary insights to help us reflect on and reimagine our relationship with the ocean—through cultural awareness and new ways of engagement.

All webinars will be recorded and made available online after the event.
